A painted front door will add a splash of colour and can make your home really stand out. Some simple greenery or flowerpots on the steps or next to the door will add a dramatic effect for little cost. Seasonal welcome signs or doormats can also add some real personality to your home.
Repaint or replace any weather, broken or out of date light fixtures or hardware. Make sure your house numbers are visible, not only for aesthetic purposes but also for convenience, when someone is trying to locate your house. A simple mailbox upgrade can do wonders for a first impression as well.
Pull out the garden home or power washer and wash down any siding that may have gotten dirty over the winter months. Wash off any cobwebs around light fixtures, windowsills or railings. Power wash your deck and side walk to remove any dirt, grime or salt that may have accumulated.
Fixing any cracked or lifting sidewalk tiles will not only give your home a cleaner appeal; it will also reduce the chances of someone stumbling over them. Remove any weeds that may be popping up in the cracks of your sidewalk and reseed any areas of your grass that may have gotten damaged or isn’t growing properly.
To create a dramatic night time improvement, add some solar lights next to the path up to your home or strategically place some solar spotlights to highlight specific areas of your landscaping. Going the solar powered route will save you time and money compared to getting an electrician to install a hardwired system.
Take some time and give your plants some loving. Trim your trees and shrubs, making sure they are not over hanging anywhere and giving them a well-kept look. Planting flowering perennials is a cost effective strategy as well, seeing they will grow back each year, compared to annuals were you will have to replace each year.
